CLARENCE FREDERICK WALTER MAGNUSSON December 26, 1934 - August 9, 2001 Peacefully, with his family by his side, Clarence Magnusson passed away at the Selkirk and District General Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 40 years Roberta; son Byron of Lac du Bonnet; daughters, Robyn (Tim) of Selkirk, Kim (Ian) of Winnipeg, and Kirstin (Kevin) of Winnipeg; and "his guys, grandsons, Justin, Bobby and Timmy; sisters, Ruth (Tom) of Kenora, ON and Margret of Winnipeg; and brother Rus (Doreen) of Sherwood Park, AB; brother-in-law Bill of Winnipeg; mother-in-law Nellie Smorong of Elma, MB; brother-in-law Ed (Edna) of Kenora; and numerous nieces and nephews. Clarence was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Salome; and brother Tommy. Clarence was born and raised in St. James where he was an avid hockey and lacrosse player as well as a defensive end for the St. James Rams. He continued his enjoyment of sports with many years as a hockey coach and as a sports reporter for the Reston Recorder. He chose a career with the Manitoba Telephone Systems and worked throughout southern Manitoba and northwestern Ontario before settling in Selkirk, where he retired in 1994. A highlight of his career was time spent in northern Manitoba where he worked as a conservation officer. He enjoyed the challenges of living and working in the north and held fond memories of the people to whom he affectionately became known as "Amisk Okimaw" - the Beaver Boss. Clarence was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and a charter member of the Reston Lions Club. He enjoyed time spent with friends and was always ready to lend a hand. He was proud of his Icelandic heritage and above all else, Clarence loved his family. There was never a time when he wasnt there to offer encouragement and support. His wisdom and sense of humour will always be remembered. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Hussein for the years of extraordinary care. Our sincere thanks to the wonderful nurses and staff at the Selkirk and District General Hospital, your warmth and compassion will not be forgotten. Dad, we will miss you, but we know your pain has ended. You were so brave, now we must be. We love you Dad.
