JUANITA MARIA HEROINA ROMARIONI 1898 - 2001 " Mamama " in her third century of life, was without warning called to her Creator on August 7, 2001. The daughter of Francesco Romarioni and Heroina Zagazeta, and the first of nine children, Juanita is now surrounded by the love of those who went before herincluding her brothers, Lazaro, Cesar (wife Maria Celinda), and Alberto; and sisters, Marina (husband Abel), Isabel, and Teresita. She is survived by her sisters, Graciela Casos (94) in Winnipeg and Victoria Moy (98) in Lima, as well as a vast extension of nieces, nephews (not to mention great-grandnieces and nephews) and their families. A devout Roman Catholic, Juanita contentedly spent hours reciting daily prayers for family and friends. Choosing not to marry, Mamama dedicated herself to helping those in neednursing away our illnesses, helping to raise our children, nurturing our faith and loving us all. In 1981, she left Peru to join family in Winnipeg, where she took even more people into her heart. She especially enjoyed weekend outings to the family cottage on Lake Winnipeg, where friends and family helped her celebrate her 103rd birthday. Juanitas zest for life was remarkable, and God was gracious in preserving her faculties until the very end. Her practical sensibility and strength of character were so constant that many of us imagined she would live forever. Our heartfelt thanks go out to Carmen Artiga, Dr E. R. Jovel, and Dr S. K. Baidwan, whose continued care and attentiveness kept the discomforts of age at bay and helped her remain in our lives as long as possible. Juanita will be dearly missed by all who knew her. May God grant her the eternal peace for which she waited so patiently. Friends are welcome at St. Josephs German Church, on Mountain and Andrews, to join the family for prayers on Monday, August 13 at 7:30 p.m. A farewell mass and remembrance will be held on Tuesday, August 14 at 10:00 a.m., also at the church with Fr. Diosdado Parrenas officiating. Interment will follow at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL in care of arrangements - 586-8044.
