John was born August 11, 1923 at Gonor, MB., where he grew up, helping on the family farm. They lived in Elmwood for many years, later moving to East Kildonan. John and Elsie enjoyed trips across Canada and to Florida, Phoenix, Hawaii and Las Vegas. The highlight of their travels was their trip to Australia to see their grandsons. John was a proud grandfather who never missed a BMX race or hockey game if he could help it. John was predeceased by his loving wife Elsie on January 15, 2000. He will be sadly missed by his daughter Joyce Gera and husband Dave (who was the son he never had) of East St. Paul; grandson Kevin and wife Lynda and great-grandchildren, Chloe and Jai, grandson Duane (with whom he shared his birthday) and wife Camille, all of Australia. He is also survived by brother Mike and Edna of Selkirk who were always there for him; sisters Doris of Winnipeg and Kay of Toronto; brother Peter of Winnipeg, numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Remember him with a smile today, he was not one for tears, Reflect instead on memories of all the happy years. Recall to mind the way he spoke and all the things he said and did, His strength, his stance, the way he walked, remember these instead. Well miss you, Pops.
