JOHN HENRY ARTHUR CORNISH Peacefully on Friday, August 10, 2001, at St. Boniface General Hospital, John Cornish, dearly beloved husband of the late Monica Cornish, passed away at the age of 78 years. John was born on Thursday, April 26, 1923 in Dersingham, Norfolk, England. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Monica on Tuesday, November 14, 2000. John leaves to cherish his memory his brother Dave (Josephine) and nephews, Gary (Christine), and Brian (Linda). John and Monica were married on May 10, 1952, in Barnstaple, Devon, England. They immigrated to Canada on December 7, 1956. He served with the Royal Electric Mechanical Engineers, in the British Army, from February 18, 1943 to October 19, 1948, for five years. During that term, he was posted to India and a short time also in Egypt, and Malta. Immediately afterwards, he joined the Royal Air Force as an instrument fitter. He served for eight years from October 20, 1948 to October 19, 1956, then with the Reserves for four, from October 10, 1956 to November 1, 1960. John had many good friends who shared his avid interests in photography and computers. Through the years, John and Monica spent different holiday occasions with their good neighbours, Jake and Pat Dyck and their families. John also belonged to Creative Retirement Manitoba and since retiring, kept in touch with former colleagues from Standard Aero where he worked for many years. He also belonged to the Winnipeg PC Users Group, where he did a lot of volunteer work for them, and the Windows Information Network. John and Monica made numerous trips to Las Vegas for the Computer Expo (Comdex) with other computer enthusiasts. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 16 at 12:30 p.m. at Knysh Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main St., Rev. Raymond Cuthbert of Broadway Disciples United Church officiating.
