Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDONALD ALBERT LOEWEN Donald "A" Loewen, aged 80 years, son of David H. and Aganetha (nee Teichroew) Loewen, August 6, 1921 - August 9, 2001 walked into his eternal rest on Thursday, August 9 at his home in Winkler, MB. We celebrate his life and look forward to meeting him in heaven. After graduating from Grade 12 at the MCI in Gretna, Don attended the Elim Bible School in Altona where he met Trudy Klassen. They were married in Altona, MB on August 29, 1943 and moved to Winnipeg where Don apprenticed with Redekop Electric. In September of 1948 they moved to Winkler. He worked for over 30 years as an electrical contractor building a business that included various partners at different times. Eventually the business expanded to include a general insurance agency. After being a partner with Manfred Enns for approximately 16 years, the electrical business was sold to two of his sons, which is known as D.A. Loewen Electric Ltd. Donald and Trudy had a passion to use their skills in a practical way for the Lord. This led them to be a big part of Wycliffe Associates and in a smaller way with Habitat for Humanity and MCC. They travelled the world where Don would lend his electrical expertise to build many translation centers. He told us many stories about how the Lord used them to help others. He also made serving in the local church a high priority. His servant attitude resulted in him serving as a Sunday School superintendent, Sunday School teacher, deacon, or by washing the dishes, planting trees or doing yard maintenance. He was known as a gentle and generous man who walked with integrity. He was always volunteering for projects in the church, for family, friends and the community. He led wisely in a gentle and kind way. His adventurous spirit and willingness to break new ground helped him in business and in being a founding member of the Grace Mennonite Church, Winkler. Don enjoyed playing golf, working in his garden, and spending time with his grand-children. He had a knack for puzzles, especially cryptoquotes and jumble puzzles that were found in the newspaper. His wonderful sense of humour ranged from practical jokes to dry wit. He loved to read and there always seemed to be either an open book or newspaper nearby. Don had a strong desire to learn as much as he could about the Lord and he devoutly pursued an intimate relationship with Him which greatly blessed his entire family and everyone else who knew him. He was a prayer warrior for those he loved and desired for them to know the Lord. He spent hours in prayer for his own children, grand-children, and the children of his friends. He also was dedicated to praying for the nations, local authorities, church and community leaders. He was a humble man and lived according to Romans 12:3 "do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgement, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you." Don was predeceased in 1997 by Trudy, his wife of 54 years. Those who will miss him are one daughter Carolyn and her husband Dennis Penner of Winnipeg; three sons, Harvey Loewen and his wife Janet, Marvin Loewen and his wife Marlene, Grant Loewen and his wife Rosanne of Winkler; ten grandchildren, Corina, Michael and his wife Karla, Mark Penner, Scott and his wife Susanne, Terry and his wife Tam, and Heather Loewen, Christopher and his wife Crystal, Lisa Loewen, Janell and Derek Loewen; four great-grandchildren, Hannah, Cody, Cara, and Willow; and two sisters, Hedy and her husband Ed Umlauf of California, Mildred and her husband Jacob Hamm of Washington; one sister-in-law Joan (George) Loewen of Edmonton; many in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. Besides his wife, he is also predeceased by two brothers, Darcy and George Loewen. The family is very grateful for Dr. Don Klassen and his understanding and compassionate care. Also thank you to the staff at the Boundary Trails Health Centre. We are overwhelmed with the love of so many people who cared about Don. Funeral service will be held August 12 at 2:00 p.m. from the Grace Mennonite Church, Winkler, MB with Rev. Herb Franz and Rev. Bernie Loeppky officiating. Interment will follow in the Winkler Cemetery. Viewing will be today, Saturday from 1 - 7 p.m. at Wiebe Funeral Home, Winkler, and Church prior to the service. If friends so desire, donations may be made to Wycliffe Bible Translators (4316-10th St. N.E., Calgary, AB T2E 6K3). Wiebe Funeral Home, Winkler, in care of arrangements.
