Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROBERT FREDRICK THOMAS GULLEN February 9, 1944 - August 10, 2001 Peacefully, on August 9, 2001, after a long struggle, "Fred" passed away in the presence of his family. Fred is survived by his loving wife of 35 years Lynda of Transcona and daughter Kim, whom he was so proud of, son-in-law Leigh and grandson Zachary of Dallas, TX. Also left to cherish his memory is his father Reg Vining; sister Edith Bonner; brother George and wife Lonnie of Sault Ste. Marie; in-laws "Pop" and Mom Foot of Transcona; and many nieces and nephews and their families. His mother Verna Vining predeceased him. He was born in Rivers, MB in 1944 and moved to Portage la Prairie where he grew up, and later moved to Winnipeg. As a young man, Fred began working for the Canadian National Railway as a Carman apprentice and eventually retired after over 30 years of service, due to illness. He loved the outdoors and before his illness enjoyed fishing whenever he could, teaching Kim everything he knew about fish and fishing, he always remembered the first fish Kim caught and told anyone who would listen about it, he loved being at his cottage at Albert Beach. Even during his illness and time in the hospital when times became tough he was always optimistic that he would get to the cottage to sit in his favourite rocking chair in the front porch just enjoying the fresh air and the sound of the birds, especially the humming birds which were a great fascination to him. Always known for his great sense of humour, he had a joke for everyone. An avid aircraft buff, he enjoyed many air shows and knew which aircraft was overhead just by the sounds they made. A very big thank you to Dr. C. Isaac, the nurses and aides on three west of Concordia Hospital, for the the wonderful care given, to all our friends both old and new, our family, for giving Fred lots of love and encouragements during the time he was in the hospital, we will always remember you. A memorial service and interment is scheduled on Tuesday, August 14 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in his memory to the Concordia Hospital staff lounge enhancement fund or the Canadian Arthritis Society. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 455 LAGIMODIERE BLVD. 982-7550
