Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNELLIE BRODOVSKY 1902 - 2001 Nellie Brodovsky, aged 98, passed away on Monday, August 13, 2001 at the Sharon Home. She is survived by her three children, Eileen (Bob Garber, Princeton, NJ), Harvey (Barbara, Philadelphia) and David and wife Sheila of Winnipeg; her grandchildren, Marian (Keith), Stephen (Lynne), Bill (Janine), Jeremy (Beth), Billy (Libby), Stephen (France), Sharon (Mauricio), Sidney (Cary) and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Gertie Belkin of Calgary. She was predeceased by her husband Bill, and a devoted brother Jim Smalley. She arrived in Winnipeg from Russia at the age of six, grew up in the North End, attended school in Winnipeg, and graduated from Normal School. She taught in rural Manitoba and Winnipeg until her marriage in 1928. A few years after the death of her husband in 1933, she established a nursery school in her home, and later taught at the Rosh Pina Synagogue and at John M. King School until 1970 when she retired. Her life was devoted to her three children as well as her brother and sister and their families. In her later years she derived great pleasure from her grandchildren and great-grand-children. All her life she maintained strong ties to her extended family. She is fondly remembered by many of the children whom she taught. She continually amazed them by her remembrance of their birthdates and incidents of their pre-school years, even decades later. Her children are grateful for the care she received in the last four years in the Sharon Home, particularly from Lydia Eglinski and Paulina Trinidad. Funeral services were held at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery on Wednesday, August 15. Pallbearers were grandsons, Billy, Stephen, Bill and Sidney Brodovsky, Stephen Garber; and her nephew Ralph Smalley. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba, 400 - 123 Doncaster St., Winnipeg, MB R3N 2B2, phone 477-7525; or a charity of your choice.
