LEONA DURAND Peacefully, after a brief illness, Leona passed away on Monday, August 13, 2001 at the Seven Oaks Hospital, at the age of 79 years. Leona leaves to mourn her passing her beloved husband Bill of 45 years; son Eric and his wife Jane; sisters, Anne Ruppel and Bertha (Volde) Dreimanis; sister-in-law Molly Schulteiss all of Winnipeg; sister-in-law Elizabeth Durand; brother-in-law Victor (Marilyn) Durand and niece Michele, all of Glendale, CA, USA and all of their families. She will be remembered lovingly by many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours, for her cheerful personality and friendships. She was predeceased by her parents; sisters, Lydia Smith, Marie Boni, Frieda Schulteiss; brother Jack Schulteiss; nephews, Paul and Robert Jestadt, and Arthur Ruppel. Leona was born December 3, 1921, daughter of George and Maria Schulteiss. She went to school in Winnipeg, was employed at W.J. Gage Co. for some years and later at Advocate Press, until the time of her marriage to William Arthur Durand in August 1956. Leona was baptized at Christ Lutheran Church in infancy, and moved to Zion Lutheran Church in 1933 with her parents and family, remaining a lifelong active member of Zion to the present time participating in all aspects of church life: singing, teaching and volunteering. Leona excelled in home baking, crafts, hand knitted lace, quilting and was an excellent homemaker and mother. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 17 at St. Lukes Zion Lutheran Church, 2903 McPhillips St., with viewing one-half hour prior to service. Interment Brookside Cemetery. We wish to express our sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Seven Oaks Hospital for their wonderful care of Leona.
