ELIZABETH (BETTY) WARD 1928 - 2001 Peacefully on August 13, 2001 after a brief battle with cancer at Seven Oaks General Hospital, Betty passed away with her family by her side. Betty was predeceased by her husband Laurie in 1985, and sister Joyce Loxton in 1993. She will be forever and sadly missed by her children, Michael and wife Terry of Winnipeg; Stephen and wife Kim of Thompson; Susanne Petrycky of Winnipeg; and Laurene Ward of Oakville, ON. Betty also leaves to mourn 11 grandchildren, Darcie and Christopher Ward, Joey, Alex and Rachel Ward, Kathryn, Andrew, Lisa and Chrissy Petrycky and Scott and Lauren Perry. She is survived by her sisters, Beryl Aitken and Peggy Hiddleston. Betty, the youngest of the four Hiddleston girls, was a lifetime resident of West/Old Kildonan and member of St. Annes Anglican Church. As a young woman she was a competitive swimmer, at one time holding a provincial record with her womens medley relay team members. She also earned her bronze medallion and was a recipient of the Royal Canadian Lifesaving Award. After high school, she was employed by Great West Life and later, the Winnipeg General Hospital Pathology Lab. Betty left the workforce in 1954 to concentrate on raising a family with husband Laurie Ward. As the family came of age she became involved with volunteer work at various locations, including the Seven Oaks General Hospital Pharmacy. Her love of sports continued as a fan and spectator, closely following the fortunes of the Moose, Bombers, Blue Jays and former Jets. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 17 at St. Annes Anglican Church, Burrin Avenue at Aikens, with the Rev. David Adams and the Rev. Honor Waithe officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the staff of 4U1 at Seven Oaks for their loving care and support to us all. CROPO FUNERAL HOME in care of arrangements 586-8044.
