JOHN BENJAMIN COLES May 17, 1932 - August 15, 2001 Peacefully on August 15, 2001, at 12:10 a.m. surrounded by his wife Joyce, daughter Allyson, nephew Ron, close family and friends, John Coles passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 69 years. John is survived by his wife Joyce of 47 years; daughters, Allyson (Darren) of Winnipeg, Susan (Tony) Baenziger; grandchildren, Mattias and Olivia of Australia, Mindy of Nanimo, BC (formerly of New Zealand) brother Bill of Vancouver; sisters, Lorna of Vancouver and Barbara of Saskatchewan; as well as many nephews and nieces. John was predeceased by his parents, Helen and Sampson; brother Charles (Marion) and sisters, Lois (Colin) and Marguerite (Frank). John was born in Wishart, SK, being the youngest of seven children. He came to Winnipeg as a young boy, eventually graduating from Daniel MacIntyre High School. John began his career as an electrician. He worked for CN Rail for 28 years, eventually retiring as a Mechanical Equipment Inspector. John then spent the next 10 years working as Regional Director of Via West and retired in 1989. John and Joyce spent these last 12 years enjoying wonderful holidays together, especially to visit their grandchildren in Australia. A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, August 18 at 11:00 a.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1858 Portage Ave. We want to thank everyone for their wonderful kindness and support over the last seven months, especially to the home care nurses and the nurse and staff (Rachael and Shirley) on the 8th floor, Pallative Care of the St. Boniface Hospital.
