OLIVE PEARL RIEGER (nee HOEY) It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Olive Rieger of Steinbach, August 13, 2001 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital, Red Deer, AB, at the age of 77. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 55 years, Henry; daughters, Sheryl (Gerry) Weiss, Winnipeg, MB, Marleen (Berny) Hiebert, Steinbach, MB and Jeananne (Harvey) Kehler, Red Deer; son Raymond (Darlene) Rieger, Steinbach; grandchildren, Joel (Margaret) Weiss, Saskatoon, SK, Matthew Weiss and Karla Weiss, Winnipeg, Jared (Tanya) Hiebert, Sexsmith, AB, Dana (Mark) Loewen, Steinbach, Brad Kehler (fiancee Christina Stewart), Red Deer, Brian (Chantel) Kehler, Blackfalds, AB, Janaya Rieger and Camryn Rieger, Steinbach; great-grandchildren, Meagan Hiebert and Alexandra Loewen; as well as extended family members and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Elizabeth Hoey; brother Douglas Hoey; and sister Viola Matthias. Mother was proud of her heritage. She was born on August 6, 1924 and raised in Brandon, MB where she received her education. At the age of 17, her family moved to Winnipeg where she worked for one year. She then moved to Selkirk where she worked as a nurse at the Selkirk Mental Hospital. It was here she met Henry, a co-worker. They were married in 1945 and made their home in Steinbach, where they raised their family and lived together until her passing. She was baptized on confession of her faith on June 30, 1947 and joined the Evangelical Mennonite Brethren Church (now Cornerstone Bible Church). She was actively involved in the church as a Sunday School teacher and as a member of the ladies missionary society and served in the community on the Bethesda Hospital Auxiliary. Mother showed her love for us by the countless things she did. She thought the world of her children and grandchildren and was always supportive of their activities, never missing birthdays and special occasions in their lives. Her happiest times were spent with family. We will always remember her knitting, sewing, baking, cooking and all the special treats when visiting at her house. Special occasions were always celebrated with lots of food and we could count on mother to prepare each one of our favourites every time we got together. Mother enjoyed reading, gardening and knitting. She also enjoyed many family vacations and travelling in their retirement. Mothers kindness and devotion to her family and friends will be forever cherished. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 18 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cornerstone Bible Church, Steinbach (corner of Reimer Avenue and First Street). Viewing will be held Friday, August 17, 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Loewen Funeral Chapel, Steinbach and at the church prior to the service. Arrangements entrusted to Loewen Funeral Chapel. 204-326-1351.
