GARRY (GUS) YOUNGSON Born November 29, 1941 in Cartwright MB, passed away suddenly on August 6, 2001 while training for a marathon. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Linda Leslie and her family; his mother Kathleen (nee Kidgell) and sisters, Moe Lutz (Harry), Maggie Murphy (Bob) and Shelley Sherriff; and his many relatives and countless friends around the world. He was predeceased by his father Harry. Gus treasured his youthful days in Cartwright, having adventures with pals and working on the Steeles farm Blow Weary. He served proudly for 29 years as a Canadian Armed Forces officer. He loved to fly, and his postings as a naval pilot included flying Trackers off the aircraft carrier Bonaventure, and CF-104s in Germany with NATO. Later he was a flight instructor on the 104s in Cold Lake, AB, and led the 417 Squadrons air show team. After retiring he pursued a career in law and was called to the B.C. Bar in 1992. He spent many happy hours fishing and sailing, and was an avid skier, cyclist and distance runner. Always eager for new challenges, he was currently compiling a comprehensive family history. Garrys integrity, enthusiasm and focused determination will remain an inspiration to all who knew him. A memorial service will be held at St. Andrews Chapel/Building N35, CFB Esquimalt on August 17 at 1:30 p.m., followed by a celebration of his life at the Ward Room/Officers Mess, Signal Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or charity of choice, would be appreciated.
