JEANE KOTICK It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Jeane Kotick of Toronto, ON. Jeane peacefully passed away in her sleep, early Wednesday morning, August 8, 2001 in the La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, ON. Jeane was predeceased by her parents, Mark and Sanka Kotyk; and her sister Anne. Jeane leaves to mourn, her brothers, Harvey, Philip, Fred and Carl; and sisters, Mary, Dorothy and Paully along with their families, including many nephews and nieces. Jeanes immediate family extended from British Columbia to Quebec and her countless friends from her extensive travels were spread around the world. Jeanes great passions were her faith and spirituality, helping others, golf and exploring the world around her. Her faith, desire to help others and her attempt to help humankind stamp out ignorance and intolerance was evident in her 36 years of dedicated and hard work as program director for the Canadian Council of Christians and Jews. Jeanes quest for knowledge and personal growth never ceased as she returned to University in her 60s to get her Bachelors Degree and as she explored the world, not as a typical tourist, but as an inquisitive, life-long learner. She wrote extensively about her travels and adventures from the streets of India, the Holy Land, the hinterlands of China, to the wilds of Alaska, the secrets of the Galapagos and the wonders of Africa, Australia and South America. Hopefully these will be chronicled to share with those who are interested in seeing the world through the eyes of a caring, insightful and loving individual. Jeane was an inspiration to all who knew her, not only because of her love and compassion for humankind, but also because of her adventurous nature and inquisitive mind. As her niece Cindy Bryan Karpan wrote, "Nothing has ever held you back, you have lived, and learned, and touched the lives of your family and friends in such a wonderfully positive way." A "Celebration of Life" service will be held early this fall in Gilbert Plains, MB, and Jeanes ashes will be buried with her sister Anne. In lieu of flowers and keeping with her desire to continue helping others, donations may be made to the charity of your choice or the Canadian Cancer Society.
