EDITH MAE (MICKIE) FITZPATRICK (Nee WRIGHT) Peacefully, on Friday, August 17, 2001, after a courageous battle with cancer, Mickie passed away at her home surrounded by family, at the age of 68. She was predeceased by husband Tom, sisters Isabel, Georgie, Dawn, and brother Dean. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her daughters Shaun Walker and Erin Cooper (Bill), son Tom; her grandchildren, Morgan and Shanna (Shaun), Adam and Kelsey (Erin) brother William Wright and family of Perth, Ontario. Mickie was born and raised in Lanark, ON. She trained as a registered nurse at the Toronto General Hospital and graduated in 1951. Mickie married Tom in 1954 and worked in the operating room at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto until the birth of their first child. They moved to Winnipeg in 1964, and she eventually returned to nursing at the Heritage Lodge Nursing Home until her retirement in 1989. Mickies hobbies included reading, curling and playing bridge, but her greatest passion in life was her family. She was a devoted wife and mother, and in recent years a doting "Nanny" to her four grandchildren of whom she was so proud. In celebration of her life, a memorial service will be held at Westwood Presbyterian Church, 197 Browning Blvd. at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, August 23. Donations may be made in her memory to the Manitoba Down Syndrome Society, 825 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1M1 or to CancerCare Manitoba, 109-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the many friends, caregivers and family members for their love, compassion and support during this time.
