Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySUSAN HILDEBRAND Susan Hildebrand passed away peacefully in her home in Woodhaven Manor on Wednesday morning, August 15, 2001. She was 92 years old, having been born on July 21, 1909 at the family farm near Niverville. She was the twelfth of 13 children born to Aaron and Margaret Schultz. She nursed both her parents in their final illnesses and only then left the farm for Winnipeg to work as domestic help and a seamstress. She returned to Niverville for Christmas in 1939 and there met her future husband Henry Hildebrand of Winkler, MB. The wedding took place in Winkler on June 14, 1940. Sue and Henry farmed for seven years in Greenfarm, five miles from Winkler. Their two children were born there; Richard on July 1, 1941 and Gloria on November 27, 1944. The family moved to Steinbach in 1947 where Henry became an accomplished stucco contractor and Sue did many jobs while working hard as a resourceful homemaker. She was creative in her gardening, canning, cooking and sewing through lean times and plenty her family dressed and ate well. She loved to sing, harmonize and play the Hawaiian guitar. The "church" was very important to her; for service and for support. Until several years before her death she hosted family dinners and as recently as August 10, five days before her death, she assisted in cooking a roast in anticipation of her daughters visit. She remained keenly interested in her extended family and circle of friends until she passed away in the early morning of August 15, 2001. She is survived by her loving husband Henry D. Hildebrand; son Richard and friend Georgina of Winnipeg; daughter Gloria and her husband Waldy of Kenora; grandchildren, Carmelle Hildebrand and partner Chris and their daughter Serena; Mark Hildebrand and partner Cindy and daughter Ari; Tanya Loewen and partner Alan; Jason Loewen and special family member Tim. Funeral service was held on Sunday, August 19 at 1:30 p.m. at Springs Church in Steinbach with Pastor Steve Down officiating. Interment followed in the Steinbach Heritage Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Loewen Funeral Chapel. 204-326-1351.
