ETHEL COX On Saturday, August 18, 2001, Ethel Cox, aged 91 years, of Winnipeg, passed away. Many nieces, nephews and relatives in England and Scotland survive her. Her husband Fred Cox; two sisters, Agnes Bell and Elsie Beeston; brother John Ducker and niece Barb Harrison predeceased her. Aunt Ethel immigrated to Canada as a young girl. She loved Canada but a part of her always belonged to England. She met and married a charming Irishman named Fred while working at Bryces Bakery. She spent the rest of her life loving him. I can truly say I have never met anyone quite like "our Auntie Ethel." She was gentle and loving and made everyone feel special; those who met her had a friend for life. She was very proud and independent. She lived in her own apartment and made her twice-a-week trips to Polo Park right up to the time of her death. In the early years she and Fred worked as cooks mostly around Yellowknife, where she made many lifelong friendships. Aunt Ethels butter tarts were a favourite with the bush pilots who always happened along when there was a batch in the ovenshe was even mentioned in the National Geographic for her famous tarts. Aunt Ethel was the centre of the family who reached out to all of us; she taught three generations of our family about life and love, and these lessons from her will live on in all of us forever. There will be a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 23 in St. Andrews Anglican Church (Woodhaven), 2700 Portage Ave., with the Rev. I.J.E. Mills officiating. There will be a private family interment in Brookside Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff at the Grace Hospital ICU for their excellent care over the past week. We would also like to thank Dorothy Harris, who spoke to Aunt Ethel everyday and whose friendship she treasured. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Childrens Wish Foundation in her memory. As Aunt Ethel always signed her cards and letters, "Fondest Love and God Bless." Dear Sweet Auntie Ethel, "Till we meet again." From all your chicks. We Love You. ...the family THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
