GABRIELLE LANOIE (nee DAOUST) Having fulfilled her time of declining health, during which she grew in acceptance, serenity and surrender, Gabrielle Lanoie died on Sunday, 19 August 2001. Gabrielle leaves to mourn her two sons, Fr. Roland of the Archdiocese of Saint Boniface, and Pierre (Teresa) and two grandchildren, Robert (Lindsay) and Rachelle (Guy Dupuis) from La Salle; sisters-in-law, Anna of Winnipeg, and Yvonne of Ste-Anne. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Raphael (1967) her sister Cecile (1931) and her brothers, Pierre (1976) and Joseph (1983). Born in La Salle, MB to Cecile and Arsene Daoust, on 29 May 1910, Gabrielle studied for one year in La Salle, and then for 10 years in Saint-Hyacinthe, PQ. She returned to Manitoba, where she married Raphael in 1942; they farmed in La Salle until 1964. Her interests included music (she was church organist in La Salle from 1931 to 1943, and again, after her husbands death, from 1967 to 1973) and reading, sewing and gardening, and various handicrafts. In 1973, she moved to Foyer Chez-Nous in Saint-Boniface. Legally blind since 1975, Gabrielle continued to crochet for the needy. She had been living at Centre Tache since September 1996. She will be remembered for her strong faith and her dedication to the poor. "We are always confident...for we walk by faith, not by sight" (2 Cor 5:7). Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Cathedrale de Saint-Boniface, presided by Msgr. Henri Perron, P.H., Diocesan Adminis-trator, on Friday, 24 August at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the family plot in La Salle. Flowers gratefully declined.
