PARASKA (POLLY) MAZUR (nee RUTA) Peacefully, after a brief illness, on August 20, 2001 at the Concordia Hospital, Paraska Mazur, passed away at the age of 82 years. Paraska was born in Cooks Creek, MB on September 5, 1918 to Harry and Julia Ruta. She married Mike Mazur on July 31, 1938. They began their married life in Melrose, MB and moved to Cloverleaf in 1949 where together they operated a mixed farm. After many years of hard work, they retired and enjoyed their grandchildren. Paraska loved to cook and bake, from perogies and holubchi to bread and buns, with Easter paskas and babas being her specialty. She enjoyed her garden, playing cards with family and friends, Ukrainian music - whether it was singing in church or dancing a polka at a party. She was predeceased by her husband Mike in 1987, mother Julia in 1986 and father Harry in 1962. Left to mourn her passing and cherish her memory are her children, Nick (Bernice) of Calgary, AB, Bernie (June) of Pickering, ON, Deanne (John) Czarnecki of Winnipeg, MB, Steve (Cathy) of Williams Lake, BC, Ernie (Terry) of Beausejour, MB. She leaves to mourn 10 grandchildren, Nicole, Nicholas (Lorri), Greg, Matthew, James, Harrison, Michael and Jarrett Mazur, David and Michelle Czarnecki; two great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Cameron Mazur; brother Walter (Mary) Ruta of Winnipeg; sister Annie (Roman) Wicharenko of Cooks Creek, MB; and numerous nieces and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be Nicole Mazur, Michelle Czarnecki, Greg Mazur and Jarrett Mazur. Active pallbearers will be Nicholas Mazur, Matthew Mazur, James Mazur, David Czarnecki, Harrison Mazur and Michael Mazur. The family would like to thank the staff of Concordia Hospital especially those who cared for her during her final days. Prayers will be said on Thursday, August 23 at 8:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel at 1442 Main St. Divine liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, August 24 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Annes Ukrainian Catholic Church, 455 Douglas Ave., Winnipeg, MB, with Rev. Walter Klimchuk officiating. Interment will follow in Green Acres Memorial Gardens. VICHNAYA PAMYAT In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL in care of arrangements 586-8044.
