ELSA WEGER February 28, 1911 - August 20, 2001 It is with great sadness we announce the death of my dear mother Elsa Weger at the St. Boniface Hospital. She leaves to mourn her passing a daughter Erna and son-in-law Ed Nych; her sisters, Pauli and Erna; and brother Eddy in Europe. She was predeceased by her husband Fred in 1978. Elsa was born in Ternitz, Austria. She was employed as a governess for a British family. This position brought her to Winnipeg, where she met and married Fred Weger. She worked at the old Victoria Hospital on River Avenue and the new Victoria Hospital as a baker until her retirement in 1976. Her retirement made way for her hobbies and travel. Her passion was bowling with the Golden Agers Saratoga and the Academy Uptown, winning many trophies and awards until the loss of her vision. The last few years she resided at 64 Nassau making new friends with the residents there. Over the years she enjoyed the companionship of her dear friend Tillie Trolnow for 65 years. God Bless you Aunty Tillie, you are a true friend. A special thank you to Elsas goddaughter Eleanor Griffiths for the special outings she shared with your family and to Lillian, thank you for your visits. To the staff of SICU, thank you for your compassion and excellent care given to Elsa in her final hours. Also to Pastor Rick Sauer for your home visits and support given in our time of need. It was much appreciated. A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 24 at St. Marks Lutheran Church, 600 Cambridge St., at 3:00 p.m., with viewing one hour prior to the service.
