Helga was predeceased by her husband Helgi on December 11, 2000; her eldest son Helgi; parents, Sam and Margaret Sigurdson; brother Siggi Sigurdson and wife Gwen; sister Lillian and husband Daniel Sigmundson; and sister-in-law Joleen Helgason. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Margaret; and her son David; her grandchildren, Stacey (Ove), David (Kelly), Franklin (Corinne), and Kimberley; six great-grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews. Helga was born February 28, 1920, in Selkirk, MB. As a young girl, she moved with her parents to Hecla. Helga graduated from Hecla School and went on to further her education at Success Commercial College in Winnipeg. In 1938, she married Helgi Tomasson. Helga and Helgi were married for 62 years and lived all of their lives, except for the last few years, at Hecla. During their married life, Helga and Helgi worked hard at raising their family and providing a home for them. Their home was always open and welcome to their many friends and relatives. Helga was an avid reader and tried to instill in her family a love of books and learning. Family was very important to her. She was a loving mother and a wonderful "Amma" to all her grandchildren. She has left all of us with beautiful memories to cherish. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Gimli Betel Home, as well as Dr. R.C.
