Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTHOMAS W. HOUGHTON It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Thomas W. Houghton on August 22, 2001 at the Riverview Health Centre. He was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Ada; brother Ralph; sisters, Edna, Esther, Helen, and Nora. Dad leaves to mourn his wife of 53 years, Joyce; daughters, Sandra (Larry), Jonelle (Roy) sons, Tom (Cheryl), and Vince; grandchildren, Ryan (Cathie), Cory, Michelle, Raegan, and Tyler; his brother Fred (Mert) and also many nieces and nephews. Tom was born on October 3, 1924 in Kenora, ON. Dad served proudly with the Royal Canadian Air Force entering the service at 18. Before entering the Air Force, Dad was hired on with Canadian Pacific Railway. He was employed with the railway for 42 years, retiring as a Locomotive Engineer in 1984. Although he spent most of his career working in the yards, he enjoyed his final years working in road service with the Winnipeg and Minnedosa Train Crews. Dad was a member of the Weston Brookland Legion for 58 continuous years of service. He served on a number of committees. His long time friends are going to miss his good nature ways and controversial opinions. One of his favourite past times was going to the Casino with his family members. When he was well, he enjoyed going to his trailer at Winnipeg Beach. Special thanks to 3E staff of Riverview for their kind care and a very special thank you to Diane who took our Mom under her wings and made her feel very comfortable. Viewing will be held on Sunday, August 26 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 27 at 10:00 a.m. from the chapel at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (south of the Royal Canadian Mint). Interment will take place in Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. A gathering of family and friends will follow in the reception centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Association. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
