Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES ERNEST PENSTON It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jim Penston on August 23, 2001. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years, Leone; and sons, Bob (Jane) of Montreal and Brian (Jo-Anne) of Winnipeg; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jason Checkley), Jeffrey and Craig; brother Delmar (Irene) sister Joan McCrea; and step-grandchildren, Jennifer, Daniel and Jessie Graham. Jim was born in Elm Creek, MB on November 6, 1922 to Ernie and Iza Penston. He spent his early years in the Elm Creek area before moving to Winnipeg in the 1940s. During the Second World War he served with the Royal Canadian Air Force. Following the war, he met and married Leone and began a long and productive career in the automobile industry. In 1950, he joined Dickson Motors and in 1971 he joined Birchwood Motors, where he worked until his retirement in 1987 and attained the award of Grand Master Salesperson on numerous occasions. Throughout his life, Jim kept in touch with his Elm Creek roots. He served as Master of Crescent Masonic Lodge following in the footsteps of both his father and his brother. Jim loved to spend time with family and friends and will be fondly remembered for his wonderful sense of humour and his exceptional consideration for others. An avid curler, he was a member of the provincial championship rink in the Masters category in 1993, a Past President of the Fort Rouge 65 Club - Seniors Section and continued to participate actively in the sport at the Fort Rouge Curling Club until his passing. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, August 27 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Service will terminate at the chapel.
