ZORA STERN Peacefully, on Saturday, August 25, 2001, Zora Stern (Ditlove) passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital. Zora is survived by her husband of 34 years, Walter; children, David, Lewis and wife Debbie; and her grandson Max. Loved and cherished by all who knew Zora, her brother Dennis and wife Nancy; the entire Ditlove, Sorokin and Stern family including 23 nieces and nephews, 17 great-nieces and nephews and the many cousins and friends. Born in Winnipeg, Zora truly grew up in a special time and place. She lived in an era in which family, friends and tradition were never sacrificed. Family gatherings were not an inconvenience but rather a chance to visit and build on age old relationships with those who shared so much with you. While Zora experienced much in her life such as living in Montreal and Minneapolis, thoughts of home and family were always with her. Returning to Winnipeg in her early 30s, she met her beloved husband, friend and soulmate Walter. Together they loved, laughed, worked and raised two wonderful children (who brought her all the joy and excitement that identical twin boys could deliver). During her life, Zora was active in various charitable organizations including Hadassah Wizo. A tremendously giving lady, Zoras greatest gift was her ability to listen. She was a surrogate mother and confidante to all who dared to be honest with her but more importantly, themselves. Zora had a magical way of bringing those who are no longer here to life through story and laughter. Her special gift included tales and experiences of her brother Dennis and parents, Louis and Fay Ditlove. Although no longer here, all her love, goodness and compassion will always remain. She was our strength when we were weak, our light when times were dark and hope when all was lost. More than the glue that held our family together, her love was like honey. It was forever sweet and soft and was always stuck to you. WE WILL ALWAYS LOVE AND REMEMBER YOU Special thanks to Zoras pallbearers: Mark Ditlove, Benji Katz, Marshall Stern, Peter Rae, Cyril Labman and David Pfeffer. Honorary pallbearers were her beloved Gabalots. Keeping with her wishes and spirit, in lieu of flowers, please make any donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity that is close to your heart.
