DR. ANDREW JOHN WOZNY He passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with leukemia on August 25, 2001. Leaving to cherish his memory are his wife Sharon; son Trevor (Carole) daughter Andrea (Cory) and precious grandson James. He was predeceased by his father Andrew in 1994. He is dearly remembered by his mother Anne; brother Ted (Joan) sister Shirley; sister Sylvia (Ernie) and his nephews and nieces, Michelle, Craig, Brad, Ward and Lance. Andy was born and grew up in Selkirk. He attended the Lord Selkirk High School. After school and on days off he would deliver groceries for his parents who operated a Solo convenience store. While attending university he worked for C.P.R. on his summer vacations. Andy graduated in 1970 from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Manitoba. In the same year Andy and Sharon (Mitchell) were married in the Notre Dame Catholic Church in Selkirk. Andy started practicing medicine in Selkirk in 1971 with Drs. Ian and W.S. Reid, and Dr. R. Robertson. A few years later the new Selkirk Medical Centre was built and he set up his two offices in which he practiced medicine for the next 30 years. He was extremely devoted to his many patients in the Selkirk district. Dr. Andy was so dedicated to his patients that he was one of the few remaining doctors who still made house calls. Any spare time Andy could get he enjoyed "garage sale-ing" for books and antiques. Every year for 25 years he went fishing with his six buddies (Ray, Keith, Wally, Ron, Richard and Brian). Andy was very family oriented. He enjoyed all family gatherings and was extremely happy when his only grandchild James moved back to Winnipeg from Colorado. He was very proud of his two children Trevor and Andrea. Andy enjoyed playing cards whenever all of the family gathered for an occasion or stopped by the house. He was always the one to suggest a "friendly" game of Liverpool. Also there were the notorious poker games with his fishing buddies. He was also an avid reader and had a modest collection of books. Special commendation should go to the doctors, nurses and staff of GD-6 at the Health Science Centre for all their loving care and attention. We would also like to thank Dr. James Johnston of the cancer care unit and Dr. Bow of infectious diseases. Funeral mass will be held Thursday, August 30 at Notre Dame Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. in Selkirk, MB with Monseignor Louis McCloskey officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Andys name could gratefully be sent to Cancer Care Manitoba (Department of Medical Oncology), 100 Olivia St., Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9. Make payable to: Cancer Care Manitoba. Active pallbearers will be Graham and Cameron Eastman, Gary Polinuk, Ward and Brad Wozny, and Cory Couture. Honourary pallbearers will be Ray Cawryluk, Walter Copp, Richard Ducheck, Keith Watson, Brian Sprolt, Ron Chorney and Pat Grochowich. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
