ELIZABETH MAKSYMYK (nee SPAKOWSAI) January 21, 1934 - August 27, 2001 With her husband by her side, Elizabeth passed away at the Johnson Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. Left to cherish her memories and mourn her passing is her loving husband of 50 years, Joe; daughters, Carole (Joe) DiMatteo, Patty (Gord) McGimpsey, and Penny (Randy) Hoplock; grandchildren, Jordyn, Shannon, Jessie, Sharie, Shawna, and Julien; and sisters, Anne Zubyk, and Frances Terlinski. She was predeceased by her parents, Anton and Mary; sister Pauline; and brother Albert. Elizabeth was born in Malonton, MB where she met her husband Joe. They settled in Fraserwood where they ran the local cafe for 16 years. They later relocated to Gimli where she began a career in upholstery at Monarch Industries and Saunders Aircraft, finishing her career as a lead hand for Triple E Motor Homes. She enjoyed her retirement years with her husband, children, and grandchildren. Prayers will be held on Thursday, August 30 at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Gimli. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 31 at 10:00 a.m., also in the chapel, with Fr. Harry Oliynek officiating. Interment to follow in the Pleasant Home Cemetery. Her pallbearers will be Leonard Terlinski, Chris Kostiuk, Sydney Maksymyk, Jim Kostiuk, Alex Wozlowski, and Nick Kostiuk. Special thanks to Drs. Wiesenthal and Chapnick, and all the staff at the Johnson Memorial Hospital for their kind care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, Box 2248, Station Main, Winnipeg, MB R3C 9Z9. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli, in care of arrangements.
