JESSICA MICHAELS Unexpectedly on Sunday, August 26, 2001, Jessica Michaels, beloved daughter of Helen Kreelak, and foster parents Steve and Jackie Massey, passed away. Jessica leaves to mourn her sister Alice (Pinky) cousins, Nikki, Jamie, Leslie; foster brothers and sisters, Danielle, Marcel, Monique, and Ben; nephews, Codie and Troy; as well as numerous aunts and uncles. She was predeceased by her beloved stepfather Leslie Barnes (Butch). Jessica was very creative, whether it was her flair with fashion or the true love of her life, singing. Jessica loved singing along with the radio and won various contests. Earlier in her life, she travelled throughout North America to perform Inuit Throat Singing with her cousins. The highlight of that short career was performing at the Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. Unfortunately, Jessica experienced many hardships in her short life. She was born on March 23, 1984. She was given up for adoption at birth. Since then, Jessicas life was plagued with abuse: physical, emotional, and later on, substance abuse on the streets of Winnipeg. She had a hard time adjusting to the many group homes and became a runaway. Since then, she had been in and out of the Manitoba Youth Centre and living on the streets. Jessica wanted help to end her struggle with life on the streets and the horrible things associated with that. Unfortunately, Jessica always felt like a bird in a cage, always restless. It seemed that every time help was close, she would feel the need to run. Although Jessica may not have been with us physically, she has and will always be in our hearts forever. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations can be made to help with final expenses at Voyage Funeral Homes, Dennys Meat Market, and at CJOB Radio. Jessica Michaels funeral service will be held in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, Saturday, September 1 at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Jim Poirier officiating. Viewing one hour prior to service. Interment to be held in Chesterfield Inlet, Nunavut. Thank you for your kindness and support. Arrangements entrusted to: VOYAGE FUNERAL HOME 220 HESPELER AVE. at HENDERSON HWY. 668-3151
