ANNA (BUSCARLET) WALKER On August 18, 2001, Anna (Buscarlet) Walker, 92 years of age, after a brief illness, passed away peacefully at the Souris Regional Health Centre. Anna was born in Souris, Manitoba on January 1, 1909 and received her early education there. She attended Normal School in Winnipeg, taught in Douglas from 1928 - 1930, Deleau 1930 - 1933 with Naomi Jasper. In 1935 she graduated from the University of Winnipeg with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She taught in Hartney from 1935 - 1938 with Alice Hopkins, 1938 - 1940 in Neepawa, 1940 - 1945 in Souris. In 1945 Anna married Walter Walker, B.A. B.Ed. a fellow teacher in Souris. They both taught in Souris for a number of years before moving briefly to Fort Francis, ON, Rivers, MB and finally settling for the balance of their careers in Selkirk, MB from 1959 - 1973. Upon retirement they returned to Souris to live. Shortly thereafter, Walter passed away in 1974. Anna was an active member of St. Pauls United Church in Souris and assisted in the thrift shop for many years. Anna is survived by her two sons, Francis of Newport Beach, CA and Stewart (Julie) of Shellbrook, SK; three granddaughters, Skylar and Xanthe of Shellbrook, Karlee of Calgary, and also her niece Donna (Don) Philp of Souris. She was predeceased by her brothers, Eric in 1936 and Hugh Buscarlet in 1984; and also by her daughter-in-law Claire in 2000. Funeral service was held Wednesday, August 22, from Kowalchuks Funeral Chapel in Souris with Rev. John Oldenkamp officiating. Interment was in the Souris and Glenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were Don Philp, Ken Wiess, Dixon Jasper, Lyle Brown, Doug Armour, and Francis Walker. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire donations may be made to the St. Pauls United Church Memorial fund or to a charity of choice. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her family, friends, neighbours and many former students.
