RALPH DOUGLAS (DOUG) BOWLES Doug passed away peacefully at home August 24, 2001 at the age of 57 after a brave and courageous battle with cancer. He leaves to mourn his wife of 33 years, Bev; his son Derek; daughter Leigh-Anne; father John (Chuck), and mother-in-law Lincy Gray. He was predeceased by his mother Eleanor (Maggie) in 1988, and sister Joan in 1996. Doug was born and raised in St. James. After high school he worked for Federal Electric and then at the Post Office. He married Bev in 1968 after dating for seven years. He then went back to school at Red River Community College. He then worked for General Foods and then Dunn & Brad Street. From there he went to work for Diversey Wyndote where he worked for 20 years, right up to the day he learned of his illness. Doug never missed a day of work. His loyalty was never-ending. Doug was a very private person with a very quiet nature. He was a homebody and took pride in it. He loved his family unconditionally and cherished his friends. Doug also had a deep love of animals (Chimo and Charlie). He always made time for his neighbours as well. He loved fishing, golfing, country music, lounging in the pool and the odd card game. Doug always made you feel special even when he wasnt well. He was so proud of his children Derek and Leigh-Anne and all they accomplished. He was a man who made us laugh and gave us strength. He will forever live in our hearts. We are thankful for all the wonderful help and support from Riverview Health Palliative Care and a special thanks to Catherine for making it possible for him to stay at home until the end. The pallbearers are John Neish, Larry Watson, David Bjornsson, Henry Rosentredder, Garth Jackman and James Jones. A service will be held at Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Dr. on Wednesday, August 29 at 2:00 p.m. Interment at Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dougs memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., R2L 1X3 or Riverview Palliative Care, 1 Morley St., R3L 2P4. "You Are Special" "Special" is a word that is used to describe something one-of-a-kind like a hug or a sunset or a person who spreads love with a smile or kind gesture. "Special" describes people who act from the heart and keep in mind the heart of others. "Special" applies to something that is admired and precious and can never be replaced. "Special" is the word that best describes you. - Teri Fernandez NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
