PHYLLIS SARAH BENTHAM (nee SCOTT) Peacefully in her sleep on Friday, September 7, 2001, Phyllis Sarah Bentham, aged 83, passed away at her home. She was predeceased by her husband Stan and brother Robert. Phyllis will be sadly missed by her two sons, Gordon (Linda) and Scott (Irene) grandchildren, Paul and Karen (Chris) Mitchell; great-granddaughter Jamie Mitchell; her twin sister Sybil Bentham; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Phyllis was born in Winnipeg and lived most of her life in St. James. She was active within her community and the Sturgeon Creek United Church. She taught Sunday school for many years, enjoyed her position as church historian, and took her place on many committees and volunteer groups. She loved music, being gifted in a variety of instruments, and enjoyed writing short stories and poetry, many of which were published. In her final years, it was with great joy that she researched and wrote "The History of Sturgeon Creek United Church 1893 - 1975". She had a deep love for all nature and the outdoors, but especially enjoyed her gardening and the companionship of her many dogs. Her love for life allowed her to enjoy Blue Bomber football as much as the symphony and ballet. She was a warm and gentle person whose generosity and kindness towards those less fortunate will always be in our hearts. We love you and will miss you. Our heartfelt thanks to the staff of Calvary Place who gave their special care and kindness to Mom. It was through their surrounding warmth and love that mom lived her final years in peace and comfort. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made in her memory to the Calvary Place Personal Care Home, 1325 Erin St. Winnipeg, MB R3E 3R6, or to a charity of your choice. Funeral service will take place at 2:00 p.m., on Thursday, September 13 at Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Drive, with Reverend Debra Schweyer officiating. Interment will take place at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens and a reception will follow at the church. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715
