Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES ERNEST BURNS CAMPBELL After a lengthy battle with lung disease, Dad is finally at rest. Peace-fully on Monday, August 27, 2001, with his family by his side, he passed from this world to join Mom in the next. Dad was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Margaret, on July 27, 2000. He is survived by his four children, Judy (Hugh) Bagnall, of Belair, MB, Floyd (Rose) Campbell, and Keith (Jan) Campbell of Winnipeg, and Margaret Campbell of Regina, 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving Jim are his sisters, Leita, Donna and Sharon; and his brothers, Ken (Joyce) and Rodney (Roz). He was predeceased by his sister Betty and brother Murray. Dad was born March 29, 1923 at Cypress River, MB. He was the eldest of eight children born to George Burns and Esther Winnifred Campbell (nee Gadd). Jim lived and worked on the farms in the Cypress River area until he enlisted in the RCAF in 1942. On April 21, 1944 Jim married Margaret Boswell in Regina. During his training they lived on various bases across Canada until Jim graduated as a bomb aimer and was posted to India where he completed 28 operations over Burma. He returned home in January 1946 on the Queen Elizabeth I. Following the war, Jim enrolled in the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Manitoba graduating with a B.S.A. in 1950 and M. Sc. In 1952. From 1952 to 1954 he served as Provincial Agriculture Representative based at Morden, MB. Following that he was with Soils and Crops Branch of the Manitoba Department of Agriculture until 1966, at which time he joined the Manitoba Crop Insurance Corporation as Director of Research. From 1971 until 1973 he served as the Assistant Manager of the Corporation. He moved to Regina as the General Manager of the Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Corporation, a position he held with distinction until his retirement in 1983. During his time in Manitoba Dad served as Secretary of the Manitoba Branch, Canadian Seed Growers Association, and was also active in the Manitoba Agronomists, The Manitoba Institute of Agrologists, and the Agricultural Institute of Canada. In 1977 he was a recipient of the Canadian Silver Jubilee Medal in recognition of worthy and devoted service in the field of agriculture. Both Jim and Margaret were actively involved in Silver Heights United Church for 19 years, from its inception until leaving for Saskatchewan in 1973. After retirement, Dad became increasingly proud of his military service, becoming active in The Burma Bomber Association and the Royal Canadian Air Force Association, travelling Canada to participate in various activities. A CELEBRATION OF JAMES LIFE will be held at the Regina Funeral Home, Hwy #1 East, on Saturday, September 1 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in James memory may be made the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, 2360 - 2nd Avenue, Regina, SK, S4R 1A6 or to the Saskatchewan Lung Association, 1231 8th Street East, Saskatoon, SK, S7H 0S5. The family would like to thank the staff of the Regina General Hospital, in particular Dr. Keren Ganshorn for the care and compassion that was shown during his final hours. Also, a special thank you to Gordon, Colleen, John, Nadine, Lorne and Eunice for their support over the last few months. Arrangements are entrusted to Regina Funeral Home (Phone 306-789-8850).
