SADIE PUMPUTIS CEKANAUSKAS (nee STAPINSKI) Peacefully on Wednesday, August 29, 2001 at Golden Links Lodge, Sadie Cekanauskas passed away at the age of 96 years. Sadie will be lovingly remembered by her children, Helen (Don) Kendall, Katherine (Walter) Polischuk, Joanne (Harry) Wozney, Judy (Gerry) Wuerch; her 14 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Sadie was predeceased by her parents, Anton and Catharina Stapinski; her first husband Christopher Pumputis and her second husband Joseph Cekanauskas; daughter Mary and son-in-law Julian Suchecky; and nine brothers. Mom was born on February 7, 1905 in Tredowacu, Ukraine, and came to Canada in 1926 at the age of 21. She lived in Fort Whyte, MB and worked at Canada Cement Co. In 1928 she married Christopher Pumputis. After his death in 1938 she married Joseph Cekanauskas, moved to Starbuck, MB and together farmed in the area until his death in 1974. In 1975 she moved into Starview Manor in Starbuck and lived there until 1997 and that year took residence at Golden Links Lodge, Winnipeg. Mom always loved gardening and cooking for family get-togethers. She also enjoyed travelling, playing Bingo and doing crafts. Prayers will be said on Monday, September 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1501 Waverley St. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 4, at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Vital Catholic Church, 1629 Pembina Hwy., with Rev. Patrick A. Morand presiding. A private interment will take place at a later date. Pallbearers will be her eight grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be her six granddaughters. The family would like to extend a big thank you to all staff and workers at Golden Links Lodge for all their care and compassion.
