WALTER (SHORTY) HAMULKA February 10, 1925 - September 2, 2001 Peacefully, on Sunday, September 2, 2001, Walter, at Beacon Hill Lodge, has gone to meet his loving wife Jean (1995). He is lovingly remembered by his only son Michael (Candace) and his two grandchildren, Mathew and Stacey. He was predeceased by his brothers, Tony and Michael; and sisters, Mary and Anne. Shorty worked for the Provincial Government for 25 years. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War. In his youth, he was an outstanding athlete and played semi-professional hockey in Hibbing, Minnesota. He was always an avid sports fan and enjoyed listening to hockey, football and baseball games. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 81. Through illness, Shorty lost his sight in 1981. The family would like to thank his good friends, Bruce Ingram, Dougie Kendall, Ray Dary and Ed Keach, who accompanied him on daily outings, enriching his life since his blindness. He also enjoyed lunches with his long time friend Ollie. The family would also like to thank the staff at Beacon Hill Lodge, especially to Nef and Hazel. Shortys wit and sense of humour will be missed. Prayers will be held on Thursday, September 6 at 8:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Funeral service will be held on Friday, September 7 at 10:00 a.m. also at the Chapel with Rev. Jim Hatherly officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Randy Smith, Rodney Smith, Geoff Brown, Wayne Dennis, Dougie Kendall and Bruce Ingram. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Shortys memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, R3B 2H8. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL in care of arrangements - 586-8044.
