JEAN SCOTT KORNELSEN (nee McAVOY) In loving memory of Jean Kornelsen aged 75, who passed away Saturday, September 1, 2001 at the St. Norbert Nursing Home. Predeceased by her parents Bill and Kirstie McAvoy, and by her son Grant Hammond. Survived by her husband, Ernie Kornelsen, and her son Jack Hammond. Jean was born in Brock, SK, on August 16, 1926 and grew up as an only child. After graduating from business school in Saskatoon, Jean spent several years in Nanaimo, BC and Regina, SK before settling with her family in Winnipeg, where she has lived for 40 years. She was a longtime member of the United Church attending Westminster Church for many years and, more recently, Fort Garry United. Jean was truly loved by all those who knew her and will be remembered as a loving mother, devoted wife and a kind friend. Her family is grateful that even as she struggled with Alzheimers disease her gentle, gracious nature endured. A special thankyou to the staff of St. Norbert Nursing Home for making her last months so full of compassion. Funeral services will be held at Fort Garry United Church on Thursday, September 6, viewing from 9:30 - 10:00 a.m. with the service at 10:00 a.m. followed by a reception. Interment will be at Green Acres Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations would be appreciated to either the Alzheimer Society, 10-120 Donald St., or to Fort Garry United, 800 Pointe Rd. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel.
