Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES MATTHEW RUTHIG 1940 - 2001 A brave, but devastating struggle with cancer, ended quietly in the early evening on Friday, August 31, 2001, at Riverview Health Centre, as Jimmy broke the mortal bonds of earth and soared to his well-earned and rightful place into Gods domain. He was predeceased by his twin brother Jack; father Harold; mother Irene; brothers, Gerald and Allan. He is survived by his devoted sister Janice, husband Mitchell Wonsul, nephew Jordan; brother Dennis, wife Audrey and family; uncle and aunt Joe and Denise Payjack; many nieces, nephews and cousins. James was born on November 4, 1940 in Winnipeg. In his youth he was a very competitive long distance runner. Portage la Prairie to Winnipeg individual and Winnipeg to Kenora, relay, as examples. Though handicapped by a hearing impediment, he proceeded with his life undeterred. Without vanity or envy he pursued any and all employment opportunities. During the early years of hotel entertainment he was a very successful Ukrainian dancer in the wide circuit of hotels in the city. He spent approximately 25 years as a Surface Mine employee in Clinton Creek, YK and Cassiar, BC. Upon returning to Winnipeg he was a dedicated son and companion to his mother until her passing in 1998. To paraphrase a well-known perspective, "As Jimmys ship faded beyond the horizon, we, who are left behind say, "Hes gone." Beyond the horizon those loved ones who predeceased him exclaim, "Here he comes!" Go with God, Jimmy. We Love You. Heartfelt thanks to the staff at 3E Riverview. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Riverview or the Cancer Society. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 5, at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Cremation will follow and he will be interred at a later date with his family at All Saints Cemetery. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL in care of arrangements, 586-8044.
