RUTH DOROTHY CRICHTON The passing of Ruth Dorothy Crichton, aged 82 years, occurred at her residence, The Saskatoon Convalescent Home, July 29, 2001. A celebration of Ruths life will be held Friday, September 7 at 1:30 p.m. in the Saskatoon Convalescent Home, 101 - 31st St. W., conducted by Rev. J. McKay. Interment of her cremated remains will take place in the Rosedale Cemetery, Moose Jaw, SK. Surviving are a niece Lianne (Dr. Robert) Forward, nee Smith, of Camden, AR, her children, Coleen Forward of Los Angeles, Robin Forward of Little Rock, AR, Melanie (Brian) Teutsch of Magnolia, AR, and her children, Sierra and Nicholas; a nephew Kerry (Cindy) Griffiths of Clavet and his children, Matthew and Jazzmin; also lovingly remembered by extended family Eileen MacDonald of Saskatoon, Estelle Griffiths of Saskatoon, Wagner Griffiths of Saskatoon, Ryan MacDonald of Barrie, ON, Ralph D. (Grace Smith) Crichton of White Rock, BC, and Terry (Laurel) McCloy and family of Calgary, AB. Ruth was born and raised in Moose Jaw, SK, the youngest child of Barclay and Isabelle Crichton. She received her early education in Moose Jaw and worked in the family jewelry business. She entered the School of Nursing in Winnipeg and later the Advanced Preparation in Public Health course at the University of Toronto. Her first contact with Home Care was as a staff member of V.O.N. in Saskatoon. A modest woman, Ruth, working with Dr. Hunt at the University Hospital, envisioned and co-coordinated the Rehab Home Care. This was a multifaceted service, enabling people at home to access occupational therapy, psychotherapy and social work. She became such an expert at Home Care, she was asked to speak in England on Innovative Home Care provided in Saskatoon. Ruth became the Acting Director of Home Care in 1963 and accepted full Directorship in 1964. Retirement, after 20 years of dedicated service, came in March of 1983. Her family and friends are proud of Ruth Crichtons legacy of caring for others. During the Second World War, Ruth was active as a Lieutenant Nursing Sister in Canada. All who knew her will fondly remember her. Memorial donations may be made to the Saskatoon Convalescent Home or the Alzheimer Society. Arrangements have been entrusted to David Grambo of McKagues Funeral Chapel (306-664-3131).
