Date of Passing: Sep 04, 2001
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryARNOLD D. COUGHLIN It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father and grandfather, Arnold Coughlin, on September 4, 2001, at Oakview Place. Arnold was pre-deceased by his wife of 60 years, Helen, in November 2000. Left to mourn his passing are son Bob and family: Sandra, Shannon, and Craig; daughter Linda Turner and family: Matthew, Paul, and Steven; daughter Cathy Hanson and family: Bill, Jessica, Marcia, and Kyla; and sister Marjorie Parker. Arnold was born in Winnipeg in 1905 and started working at the Dominion Bank at the age of 18. He spent most of his working life in Winnipeg, but also worked briefly in Kenora and Selkirk. He continued working with the Toronto Dominion bank for 45 years until his retirement in 1968 as manager of the Corydon and Stafford branch. Arnold was an active member of Deer Lodge United Church for over 40 years, and prior to that, St. James United. He also enjoyed membership in the TD Bank Retired Members Association. In earlier years, Arnold enjoyed bowling, swimming, and diving, and we have many fond memories of Dad diving into the pool during family get-togethers up until his 90th birthday. Family vacations were always a special time for all of us and Mom and Dad continued travelling on many wonderful winter holidays up until 1997. The family would like to thank Dads special Home Care worker, Shirley, whose care and companionship meant so much to him and enabled him to remain in his own home until recently. Dad will be lovingly remembered for his gentle nature, dedication to family, and the courage, strength, and dignity with which he accepted the many challenges he was faced with in the last few years. Memorial service will be held Tuesday, September 11 at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Reception will follow in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations in Arnolds memory may be made to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, 1080 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3G 9Z9.
