Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCHARLES FERRIS LEAVENS 1907 - 2001 Charles F. Leavens,at the age of 94, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 31, 2001 at the home of his only son, Lynn,in Port Coquitlam, BC. He was born in Foxwarren, MB on August 7, 1907 and lived there with his family until 1916 when they moved to Winnipeg. In May of 1998 he relocated to Port Coquitlam, to live with his family. He was predeceased by his parents, Louis H. and Mabel Leavens of Winnipeg and Stonewall, along with siblings Eva, Edna, Pauline, Frank and Dora. Charlie completed his Bachelor of Arts degree and Masters in Education at the University of Manitoba. He was a respected teacher in the Winnipeg school district for many years, teaching at numerous schools in the district including Hugh John MacDonald, Tech Vocational, Gordon Bell and Silver Heights secondary schools. After 42 years of teaching English, he retired in 1967 at the age of 60. Along with his passion for teaching, Charlie loved team sports and was involved for many years as a coach of hockey and baseball. He started a second career when he bought his first two Thoroughbred racehorses in 1960. In total, he owned over 50 horses during the next 30 years. Charlie was loved and will be missed by his surviving family, son Lynn R. Leavens, daughter-in-law Donna, granddaughters, Laurie Donaldson (Leavens), Terra and Robyn Leavens, great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Benjamin Donaldson. Also nieces, Merle Waite, Pat Cairns and Sharon Switzer and Lynns mother, Mrs. Beatrice King (Ferguson). A memorial service will be held Thursday, September 6 at 4:00 p.m. in Coquitlam, BC at Friendship Baptist Church.
