IAN BARRY YAMRON Surrounded by his family, Ian Barry Yamron passed away September 2, 2001, aged 61. Ian is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Fraydel (Dudeck) children, Brenlea and Nick Biggs and Karen and Al Shpeller; granddaughters, Sami, Morgan and Laia; siblings, Irene and Merv Rosenberg, Lynne Spigelman, Joel and Sharron Dudeck and Ian and Marilyn Dudeck; mother-in-law Sarah Dudeck; and his many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Louis and Lillian Yamron. Ian grew up in Winnipegs north end. He began his career in the retail business and moved to World Wide Distributors, where he worked for 18 years. In 1981, Ian and Fraydel acquired Nathan Detroits Sandwich Pad in downtown Winnipeg. Ian managed "the Deli" for the next 20 years, making it a meeting place, not just for customers, but for his extensive circle of family and friends. Ian loved to play cards, go to the casino, spend time at "Pleasant View" in Winnipeg Beach and surf the Internet. However, his real passion was his three granddaughters. He was also an active member of the Seven Oaks General Hospital Board of Directors and the Parkinson Foundation. He lived with diabetes for the last 30 years, developing complications along the way. Ten years ago he also developed Parkinson disease. However, he never let his misfortune and ill health get him down. He always maintained a positive outlook on life, and made the absolute most of his time. Two years ago he was one of the founders of the Parkinson Golf Tournament in Manitoba. Ian was also the first person in Manitoba to undergo deep brain implant surgery to combat his Parkinson. The surgeries were a huge success and gave Ian a new lease on life. Throughout his life, Ian exemplified quiet determination, a zest for life, a great sense of humour, a devotion to his entire family and an ability to bring people together. You could always count on Ian to be positive, full of humour, always seeing the potential... How are you Ian? "Fantastic! But Im getting better!" How are you Ian? "Fantastic! Just ask Fraydel!" Through all his hardships, he never once asked "why me". He never once showed a trace of self-pity or a hint that he could be defeated. He was a tower of strength and stability to those who knew him, as well as being a leader in his community. He was a joy to be around, and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Funeral services were held September 3 at the Beth Israel Synagogue, with interment at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ian Dudeck, Joel Dudeck, Rube Helman, Bill Mahon, Allen Spigelman, and Ralph Yamron. Honorary pallbearers were Nick Biggs, Zvi Dill, Sheldon Margolis, Esther Shuster, Henry Wolfe and Al Shpeller. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ian & Fraydel Yamron Fund for Diabetes & Parkinson Research at the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba, 477-7520, or the charity of your choice. "AND LIFE GOES ON...."
