ANNA J. STEPHEN On September 14, 2001, the journey ended and what a journey it was. It began August 30, 1900 in Trois Pistoles, Quebec. Anna was the third oldest of the six girls who moved west with their parents, Charles and Marie Morin, in 1906, to homestead and farm near Indian Head, SK. The family grew to 10 children (8 girls and finally 2 boys). Anna graduated as a teacher in 1919 and taught in various Saskatchewan communities until 1932, when she married William II. Stephen, and home became Viceroy, SK, where Dad was the Postmaster, Justice of the Peace and counsellor to all. Two boys (Ian and Bill) arrived in the thirties and in 1955 the family moved to Estevan where Dad retired as Postmaster in 1962. Mother and Dad then chose to move to Winnipeg, where they were closer to family. Anna was predeceased by her husband in 1973 and by her son Ian in 1995. She is survived by her son William and his wife Lorraine, daughter-in-law Margaret, ten grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Aline (Indian Head), Blanche (Regina), Yvonne (Brandon). Anna was a very independent person who had a great sense of humour. At 91 she decided to stop driving her car and a collective sigh of relief was heard throughout the family. She was very interested in politics and current affairs and will now be able to resume her lively discussions with Dad (who has had 28 years to prepare). Mother was extremely proud of her family and did not hesitate to brag to her sisters about the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also frequently expressed how proud she was of her country and her heritage. Even though she lived through a time when there were great wars and the Depression years, she always spoke of the wonderful life she experienced. Rest well Mother. Anna resided the past seven years at Golden Links Lodge where she was attended to with great care and always treated with the utmost dignity. Thank you to all the staff. A special note of gratitude to the second floor staff. You folks are the greatest. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 18 at 2:00 p.m. at Parish of St. Timothy, 135 John Forsyth Rd., Winnipeg. Father Jerry officiating. Interment to follow at Glenlawn Memorial Gardens. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations in Annas memory may be made to Golden Links Lodge, 2280 St. Marys Rd., P.O. Box 248, St. Vital P.O., WInnipeg, MB, R2M 4A5. Arrangements by: EDWARD J. COUTU LTD. FUNERAL DIRECTOR 680 Archibald St. 253-5086
