BERTHA JANE CHASE (PADY)

BERTHA JANE CHASE (nee PADY) Peacefully, on Saturday, September 8, 2001 at the Stonewall Hospital, Bertha went home to be with her Lord and Saviour at the age of 90 years. Bertha was born in Edenwald, SK, on June 2, 1911, one of 11 children. She married Nathanual Chase in 1932 and moved to Ashern, MB, where they raised five children and farmed. Bertha worked at Goodwill Industries for many years. She spent the majority of her life in Ashern, moving to Stonewall in 1997 where she spent her remaining days. Berthas kindness and gentleness will be remembered by all who knew and loved her. She leaves to cherish her memory her sister Edith Prince; two sisters-in-law, Natalie Pady and Helen Thickens; her children, Janice (Ben) Wiebe of Stonewall, Violet Budge of Winnipeg and Art (Debbie) Chase of Winnipeg; other relatives, Marion Chase, Edith Chase, Mary Chase, and Al Budge; 21 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Nathanual; her son Nathanual (Nick) daughter Patricia and son-in-law Joe Podlaski; grandchildren, Rick and Glen Podlaski; also numerous brothers and sisters. A celebration in her memory will be held on Thursday, September 13 at 2:00 p.m. in the Ashern United Church, with Rev. Melanie Kauppila officiating. Interment to follow in the Ashern Municipal Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the Ashern Legion Hall. Pallbearers will be Greg Chase, Stan Chase, Owen Chase, Wayne Budge, Rodney Budge, and Doug Rubidge. Honorary pallbearers will be John Martens, Jeff Joel and all in attendance. Friends and relatives may pay their respects from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 12 at the Arnason Funeral Home in Ashern. Viewing also at the church prior to the service. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB or the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg.
