ALPHONSE PERRON 1920 - 2001 Peacefully on Saturday, September 8, 2001, at St. Boniface Hospital, Alphonse Perron passed away after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 81 years. Alphonse is survived by his wife Cecilia (Connelly) of 49 years; their three sons, Roger (Angele) of Ile des Chenes, MB, Alain (Diana) and children, Alanna and Robert, Leo (Elaine) and daughters, Michelle and Jenelle; daughter Yvonne (Walter) Krahn and sons, Justin and Curtis, all of Winnipeg, MB. Alphonse was born and spent his formative years in Montmartre, SK. He moved in 1937 with his parents and built a dairy farm in St. Laurent, MB. He served in the Armed Forces during the Second World War. After training in Portage la Prairie, MB and Ottawa, ON, he was transferred to Saint John and Sussex, NB as a medical orderly where he obtained the rank of Corporal until his discharge and return to the farm. He strongly devoted himself to community affairs for the people of the municipality by organizing courses such as basic and advanced welding, carpentry, public speaking, defensive driving, meeting management and upgrading levels. He also organized a municipal advisory board. He helped establish a sewing factory that employed 30 people. He motivated a committee into raising funds to build a new recreation centre of which he was treasurer for many years. He was also director of the Interlake Regional Board. He then sold the dairy farm and moved to Winnipeg where a month later he accepted a position as advisor for the dairy farm at Headingley Correctional Institute. When this farm closed, he transferred to the Department of Public Works, Trades and Operations caring for the yard, greenhouse and up to 12 inmates at a time. He kept this position for over 12 years until he retired in 1985. He was predeceased by his parents, Elphege and Eva Perron; his only brother Rev. Brother Edouard Perron OMI; his youngest daughter Helene Perron; and his daughter-in-law Sally Perron. Alphonse will always be remembered as a devoted husband, father, pepere and as a man who gave generously of his time and talents. At Alphonses request, cremation has taken place. The family extends sincere thanks to the staff of the 7A Wing and Palliative Care Unit of the St. Boniface Hospital for the excellent care extended to Alphonse in his latter days. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations in his memory may be made to CancerCare, 100 Olivia St., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9, or to a charity of ones choice. Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 12 at St. Bernadette Church, 820 Cottonwood Rd. (Windsor Park), Winnipeg. Fr. Fred Olds will officiate. Burial of cremated remains will be at PW Lavack Columbarium, St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery on Archibald Street, following the funeral. LECLAIRE BROTHERS in care of arrangements, 775-2220.
