Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY SUTHERLAND Peacefully, after a courageous battle with diabetes, kidney and heart disease, Mary passed away on Saturday, September 8, 2001 at the Health Sciences Centre. Mary will be lovingly remembered and missed by daughter Linda and son-in-law Don Harrison, grandchildren, James, Amber and Allison; daughter Wendy Kowal and grandson Darcy; son Peter and daughter-in-law Brenda Pingatore, granddaughters, Kristin and Dayna. She is also survived by her sister Letitia Albrecht, brother Peter Pingatore and wife Gladys, and many nieces, nephews, and in-laws. She was predeceased by her husband Jim in 1978; her mother and father; sisters, Angela, Edith, Elsie; and brother Tony. Mary was born May 29, 1914 in Transcona and lived there all her life. The Pingatore family was a close knit family and were very proud of their Transcona heritage. In her younger years, Mary played second base for the Transcona Blue Jay softball team. She was a life member of the Transcona Ladies Curling Club and could be counted on to provide levity at their social functions. Jim and Mary were longtime summer cottagers at Lake Florence - Winnitoba and made their home or camp open to all. She was especially happy to be part of the road opening at Winnitoba and enjoyed seeing all her lake friends at this gathering. Mom gave unselfishly of herself to all and also tried to see the bright side of any situation. Each of us will remember Mary for her quick wit, remarkable memory, sense of humour, and wonderful hospitality. The family wishes to thank Drs. Allen, Rush, Zacharias, Cohen, Kulack, and Hosking of the HSC, the dialysis units, staff of A4, D4 and H5, and the home care team for their excellent care and compassion. Special thanks to the management of MacDon Industries, Garden Gate Pontiac and Transcontinental Printing for their understanding. Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 12, 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day St. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 13 at 2:30 p.m. at Transcona Memorial United Church, 209 Yale Ave. W., Rev. Jeff Cook officiating. Interment to follow at the Transcona Cemetery. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marys memory to the HSC Dialysis Trust Fund, 791 Notre Dame Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0M1, or the Transcona Memorial United Church. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.

My brother and I have very fond memories of the neighbours and friends at the lake. Although we sold our place, I believe to our neighbours out there, our hearts never left! I have always wanted to go back to visit and see if anyone remembers the Bell family. My dad Bill Bell was a railway man [36 yrs] until his death in 1976. Eileen [mom] passed in 2004. I have some great pictures of our modest cabin. Our memories are happy ones:} Keith and I [Janet] send our belated regrets to you and yours. This msg was just recently passed on to me, as my niece-in-law recognized the name of the lake!! Please take care.. sincerely Jan Slinowsky [nee Bell] - Posted by: janet bell, keith bell, (friends, grew up at winatoba) on: Sep 03, 2014

Mary was my grandmother, who taught me many things. I am so blessed to have had in my life for as many years as I did, her memory never leaves me. Most special to me are my memories of Transcona, and Lake Florence at the cabin that meant so much to her and the grandfather I never knew. Always missed and loved! - Posted by: Amber M.
