RUSSELL ZACHARKIW After a short but courageous battle with cancer, it is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Russell Zacharkiw at the age of 59. Predeceased by his mother Mary in 1993 and father-in-law William in 1983. "Russ" is survived by his loving wife of 37 years Helen; his two sons Darren (Nancy) and Brent; grandsons Nicholas and Brendan; his father Mike; brothers Maurice (Shirley), Robert (Judy), Larry, Allan (Coreen) sister Barbara (Ron) Michaluk; mother-in-law Jennie Mikolayenko and her extended family, along with numerous nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles and many, many dear friends. Russ was born in Gimli, MB on August 5, 1942. In 1962 he began his 38 years career with Randall Plumbing and Heating where he worked in the service department. Russ was a long time member of Local 254 the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union. During his career Russ touched the lives of many people and cultivated many long lasting friendships, some being his nearest and dearest friends today. Russ was a kind and easy going man. His warmth, generosity and willingness to help others proved he had a Heart of Gold. With his sense of humour and loud chuckling laugh, Russ would always leave a lasting impression on everyone. In Russ world, he was an extremely gifted and loving husband, father, gigi and friend. He will be missed by all. Russ had a variety of interests which included mushroom and wild berry picking, camping and hunting, especially the fry ups he would have in the garage with family and friends afterwards. Russ was able to entertain family and friends with his music. He was a gifted performer of many instruments, but his constant choice was the guitar. The family would like to express their gratitude to family, friends and neighbours for their thoughts, prayers and visits. Special thanks to Dr.s Szajkowski, Zaki and Lezack of the Oncology Department at Seven Oaks Hospital and especially special nurses Janet, Debbie and Laura, your support and compassion was very much appreciated. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 13 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. A gathering of family and friends will follow in the Glen Eden Reception Centre.
