Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySHERRY LYNNE KLASSEN (nee SMITH) With great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Sherry Lynne Klassen on Sunday, September 9, 2001 at Portage District General Hospital after a long and courageous battle with cancer at the age of 39 years. Predeceased by her father Grenville Smith in 1983, she leaves to mourn her passing, her beloved husband Glenn; her mother Helen Smith; brothers, Harvey (Debbie) Smith, Brian (Laurie) Smith; sister Donna (Michael) Tarr, all of Portage; her father and mother-in-law Art and Rita Klassen of Newton; sister-in-law Lori (Rob) Loewen of Regina; brothers-in-law, Bob (Linda) Klassen of Oakville, Carl (Laura) Klassen of Newton and Tim Klassen of Portage; numerous nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends. Sherry was born July 3, 1962 in Portage la Prairie, where she received her education, graduating from P.C.I. in 1980. Sherry was employed at The Portage Mutual Insurance Company, Newton Do-It Centre, Manitoba Crop Insurance and most recently with Farm Credit Corporation. In 1983 she married Glenn Klassen and they lived in Oakville until 1987 when they moved to rural Portage. Sherry enjoyed the outdoors, biking, camping and spending time at the family cottage at Delta. Her favourite companions were her three dogs whom she took on numerous camping trips. Sherry was diagnosed with cancer in 1995 and throughout her illness maintained a positive attitude towards life continuing to work until a few months ago, when poor health forced her to stay at home. The family wishes to thank the many doctors, nurses and home care staff for their many acts of kindness and loving care given to Sherry. Funeral service will be held 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 12 at Portage Alliance Church, 2375 Saskatchewan Ave. W., Portage la Prairie, with Warren Bracken officiating. A private interment will follow later at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Portage la Prairie. As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Sherrys memory to the Central Plains Cancer Care Services, 318 Saskatchewan Ave. E., Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 0K8. A tree will be planted and cared for in memory of Sherry by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel who are entrusted with the arrangements. 857-4021. www.portagelaprairiedailygraphic.com
