VIOLET HELEN HARRIS (nee HARROD) Violet H. Harris passed away at Oakview Place Nursing Home, 2395 Ness Avenue, Winnipeg on August 26, 2001. She was the widow of Gilbert J. Harris; mother of Lorne and Gordon Harris of Winnipeg and Burt Harris of Halifax, NS; special friend David Elliott and mother-in-law of Donna Harris of Winnipeg and Beverly Harris of Halifax; grandmother of Leslie Saur of Edmonton; Aimee Fortier of Winnipeg, Christopher Harris of Toronto, Sherry Keiser and Brant Harris of Nova Scotia; great-grandmother of Kayla Saur, Brandon and Tyler Keiser, Ethan and Griphon Fortier and Ailie Harris. Violet was the fourth child of John Ezekial Harrod and Florence Maud (Wyman). She was predeceased by her parents; two sisters, Maud Key and Dorothy Hurkot and four brothers, Bert in infancy, Bill, Fred and Albert (Ab). Her lone surviving brother, Robert Harrod of Moose Jaw, passed away September 10, 2001. Nephews and nieces survive throughout Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta - too numerous to mention here. Orville and Gwen Vickers were special friends. Violet worked as a telephone operator and accounting clerk at Misericordia Hospital, Winnipeg from 1950 until 1973 when she and Gilbert both retired. They traveled then through western Canada and to Arizona. After Gilbert passed on in 1985, Violet lived alone until 1989 when she moved with son Lorne to his home in Windsor Park. In 1996 she moved to Beacon Hill Lodge and then to Oakview Place Nursing Home. Violet was active in Riverview United Church, teaching Sunday School and singing in the choir. The family wish to thank the staff of Oakview Place for their continued care for the past five years and to Home Care workers who cared for her from 1991 until 1996. Memorial service will be held on Friday, September 14 at 2:00 p.m. at Oakview Place with Rev. Russell Wardell officiating.
