WALTER HENRY (BUD) SPRING With great sadness, the family of Walter Henry Spring announces his peaceful passing on September 11, 2001 at Seven Oaks Hospital Palliative Care. Bud was predeceased by his father William Walter and mother Victoria, sister Dorothy Burn and uncle Harry Spring and wife Beulah. Left to cherish his memory is his sister Bernice Salmon and niece Vicki; his wife and best friend Margaret; two sons, Bill (Florence), and grandsons, Richard, Jason and Colin; and Scott (Doreen), grandson Matthew and granddaughter Kari-Anne. In Edmonton, nephews, Bill and Tommy Burn and in Ottawa, David Burn, and their families. Bud grew up in West Kildonan in the house he was born in 78 years ago. He was a familiar figure proudly working in his garden, coaxing the grape vines to produce and shaking his finger at the lazy apricot tree, chin wagging with the neighbours and always quick to give a neighbourly hand when needed. He was an avid fisherman and thoroughly enjoyed camping and fishing expeditions with his family. Over the years, Bud continually supported his boys and grandchildren in their many activities. In December 1984, Bud retired after a span of 40 years meter reading with Winnipeg Electric, Manitoba Power Commission, and Manitoba Hydro. He then joined the Hydro X Club upon retiring. In the late 1950s, he got his Ham Radio licence and call letters, VE4-XL, spending many a night in the basement listening and learning and improving his radio equipment. Bud was a life member of the Manitoba Amateur Radio Museum Inc. in Austin, MB. He was also a member of the McBeth House. The family expresses its sincere gratitude to the nursing staff on the 5th floor, unit 2 of the Seven Oaks Hospital, and to Rev. Tony Maunder for their compassion and care given to Bud. It is truly appreciated. Following a private interment at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, a service of remembrance will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 14 at Kildonan United Church, 187 Kilbride Ave., West Kildonan, with Rev. Tony Maunder officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so wish, donations may be made to Kildonan United Church or to a charity of ones choice in memory of Bud. "Throughout his life, Bud was both a gentleman and a gentle man." Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN EDEN FUNERAL HOME 4477 MAIN STREET 338-7111
