ELIZABETH PETERS Elizabeth Peters peacefully passed away on Tuesday, September 11, 2001 at the Salem Home in Winkler, MB. Elizabeth was born in Gnadenthal, Russia, on May 21, 1912 to her parents, David and Elizabeth Peters. She was a talented child, blessed with a friendly, outgoing personality and was always ready to extend a helping hand. Childhood and youth were a happy time for her. When war, revolution, and famine came, the Peters family decided to immigrate to Canada. They spent three months in Germany and arrived in Canada in March, 1930. They came to Gnadenthal, MB, bought a farm, and started life anew. Elizabeth was a faithful child of God. She enjoyed attending Bible studies, prayer meetings, Sunday services, and Jugendvereinen programs. She specifically enjoyed listening to the Gnadenthal Childrens Choir under the direction of her sister Susie. She was always there when they sang at festivities. For many years, Elizabeth took care of her aging parents. She was a capable housekeeper and a hard worker. When the time came where she required care, she lived with her brother David and his wife Tina. Here she was at home and her sister-in-law Tina took great care of her. She also spent five years with her sister Sara in British Columbia and shorter times with other sisters. In the last years, she had a difficult path to walk. In john 21:18 we read: "But when you are old, you will stretch out your hands and another will guide you and carry you where you do not wish to go." She finally had to move to Salem Home in Winkler. Sisters-in-law, Tina and Kathy, have spent much time visiting and encouraging her during these years. As family, we sincerely thank you for this "Service of Love". Preceding her in death are her parents, David and Elizabeth Peters; two sisters, Tina Paetkau and Susie (in infancy) three brothers, Jack, Frank, and Abraham (in infancy) and three brothers-in-law, Frank Sawatzky, Abraham Paetkau, and Henry Peters. Mourning her passing are Mrs. Margaret Sawatzky, Mrs. Sara Peters, Mr. and Mrs. David and Tina Peters, Mr. and Mrs. Peter and Susie Harms, Mr. and Mrs. John and Mary Fehr, and one sister-in-law Mrs. Frank Peters (Kathy). We would like to express a thank you to the many people who ministered to her one way or another. A special thank you to the Salem staff, Chaplain, nurses and care givers, for the loving, gentle care for Elizabeth. Pastors, singing groups and people serving today, all have our special thank you. There will be a service of remembrance on Friday, September 14 at 2:00 p.m. at Rosetown Church in Rosetown, MB.
