HELEN LAUDER GALLAGHER (MATHESON) Helen departed from us peacefully on September 14, 2001 at Riverview Health Centre. She was predeceased by her husband Mel. Helen will be sadly missed by her three loving daughters, Catherine Mitchell (Jim), Marjie Joss (Gary Tougher), Ruth Lindquist (Rod) grandchildren, Greg Mitchell (Crystal), Doug Mitchell and David Mitchell (Camille Bedard), Marnie and Melanie Joss, Riley and Raechelle Lindquist; great-grandchildren, Bryden and Michelle Mitchell, Breah and Sydney Renwick, and Sophie Mitchell, along with many friends and relatives. Helen was born on December 31, 1913 in London, England. She was the only child of George and Eliza Matheson. Happy childhood and school years were spent in Cartwright, MB. After completing high school, Helen attended the University of Winnipeg where she received her B.A. degree. Later she attained her Masters of Social Work Degree and subsequently worked for the City of Winnipeg Social Welfare Department, Childrens Home and The Childrens Aid Society. Helen was the first woman in Winnipeg to receive a bursary from the City of Winnipeg to attain her masters degree. Helen enjoyed being with people and was a member of Xana Business and Professional Women, the Rebekah Lodge, Regents Park United Church, and organizations within the church. Helen was never one to give up, as demonstrated in her five year stay at Riverview. A heartfelt thank you to Pat Yamato and her warm, caring staff at Riverview for their ongoing dedication to her care. A memorial service will be held at Regents Park United Church on Tuesday, September 18, at 2:00 p.m. Flowers gratefully declined.
