Date of Passing: Sep 13, 2001
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBEVERLEY JUNE GOURLAY After a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer, Beverley passed away on Thursday, September 13, 2001 to a better world void of pain and illness. Left to mourn is her devoted husband Robert with whom she spent the happiest nine years of her life; her children, Tracey, Riley (Julie) Saunders and Tannis (Robert) Reichert; their father Lindsay; her cherished grandchildren, Hunter and Hudson Reichert and Jaiden Saunders. Her sister Daryl, with husband Ted Jackson, who have always been there for Bev in times of distress, and the many family and friends who have continuously offered prayers on Beverleys behalf. Beverley, predeceased by her parents Ernest and Vera Nakka, was born in 1942 and raised in Hadashville, Balmoral and High Bluff before moving to Winnipeg where she attended Kelvin High School. In her early life Bev fulfilled many of her dreams by becoming a professional skater with the Ice Capades Shows followed by a period as a flight attendant with Air Canada before settling into family life in St. James. Beverley was a wife and mother with boundless energy and enthusiasm. She loved her garden, excelled at housekeeping and further exercised her creative talents by sewing and knitting clothes, quilts and costumes for family and friends. Beverley was always counted on to make each celebration, occasion and holiday special in ways that only she could. And she made a house a home. Never one to give up or be beaten by a challenge, Beverley had overcome many obstacles in her life, physically, mentally and spiritually. In the later stages of her life she lived according to her most repeated prayer - "God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, and the Wisdom to know the difference." Those she has left behind have been given the task of carrying on her traditions and keeping her spirit alive. We as a family thank everyone for your support and sympathy during this time. Further gratitude is extended to Mrs. Joan Powell, to the surgeons, the nurses and the staff on units 7B, 4A, 5B, the Oncology Department and Palliative Care of St. Boniface Hospital for their professionalism, their courtesy and compassion. A celebration of Beverleys life will take place at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave., entrance on Aubrey Street, at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 18 and will be officiated by Pastor Karen Toole.
