She also leaves to mourn her loving sister Thelma Paddington of Thunder Bay, Ontario, and numerous other relatives and lifelong friends. Phyllis was predeceased by her husband William and dear brother Alwyne Turner. Phyllis was born on October 24, 1908 in Bedford, Bedfordshire, England. She came to Canada with her mother (Mabel Louisa Seamer), father (William George Turner) and her brother (Alwyne George Turner) in 1913. They originally settled in Fort William (now Thunder Bay). Later, the family grew with the arrival of her sister (Thelma Elvira Turner) in 1916. In 1920, the family moved to Winnipeg. She worked at the CNR as a secretary/bookkeeper from 1924 until her marriage to William Harris Hurley on August 3, 1929. Her husband predeceased her on December 16, 1964. She returned to work in 1950 as a part time secretary in an Elmwood school. She later started working at Kelvin Electric in 1953 until her retirement in 1980 at the age of 72. Phyllis and her husband built a cottage in Boundary Park (later Winnipeg Beach) in 1942. They spent many happy summers there with their family and friends until the cottage was sold in 1993. She travelled extensively visiting England, Scotland, Japan, Florida, Arizona, Hawaii, Alaska, Switzerland and France. Her hobbies were many and included bowling, knitting, sewing, painting, ceramics, calligraphy, crocheting, leather and copper work, reading, aerobics and line dancing. She especially loved walking. Phyllis loved her independence and enjoyed life to the fullest. She was truly a wonderful mother, mother-in-law, a dear friend, and a most caring grandmother (Nanny). We will miss her greatly. Her pallbearers will be Brad Smith, Al Stetz, Bob Hurley, Dale Madill, James Smith, and Bradley Smith. The family is forever indebted to the wonderful, caring staff of Middlechurch Home.
